Continuing our celebration of 100 years of orchestral tradition in Jalisco, it seemed almost mandatory that we present a concert in one of this country`s most important cultural centers: El Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. We will take advantage of the return to the OFJ of acclaimed Russian pianist Alexei Volodin and enjoy his stunning interpretations of the Prokofiev Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3, both works noteworthy for their musical richness and colorful melodic variety, and for running the technical and artistic gamut. We then close our concert with Petrouchka, by Igor Stravinsky, a work brimming with energy and inventiveness which represents one of the most brilliant moments in the career of this Russian composer. It has been touted as a sophisticated, intellectual example of theatrical folklore.
