The program opens with a world premiere: Vencidos, by Italian composer Fabio Vacchi, commissioned especially for the FIC. . Vacchi is one of the best-known and most influential personalities on the European music scene today. Baritone Carlos Almaguer joins the OFJ in the performance of this work.
Next on the program is the symphonic poem Don Quijote, Op. 35, by Richard Strauss, written in 1897. Cellist William Molina-Cestari will be the soloist who represents the Knight of the Woeful Countenance, fighting for his ideals against all adversity. Our Spanish adventure continues with guitarist Cecilio Perera in Joaquín Rodrigo´s Concierto de Aranjuez, and the program concludes with the Second Suite from the ballet El sombrero de tres picos (The Three-Cornered Hat), by Manuel de Falla.
