On the 6th and 8th of February, the OFJ opens its Tchaikovsky cycle, whose first program includes the first symphony of our Russian genius, entitled “Winter Dreams”, Op.13. Tchaikovsky was 26 years old when he became professor in the Moscow Conservatory, and during this time period he began his symphonic output with the work we are about to hear, a symphony that paints fascinating sonic representations of the colors, textures, and sensations that typify the diversity of the Russian winter landscape. What better complement to this symphonic winter wonderland than one of the public’s favorite waltzes, the Skater’s Waltz, Op. 183 by French composer Émile Waldteufel? Violinist Geza Hosszu-Legocky returns to the Degollado stage in this program, to regale us with one of the classics of the nineteenth-century violin repertoire: the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 2, Op. 22 by Henryk Wieniawski.
On this occasion, the OFJ welcomes to the podium the distinguished Brazilian conductor Roberto Minczuk, Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Brasileira de Saõ Paulo and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
