Jose Benavent Esparza


Bass Trombone

Born in Gavarda, Valencia, Spain in 1989, José Benavent Esparza began his musical studies at the age of 8 with Miguel Ángel Calvo in his native city’s music school. At 12 years of age he changed his place of instruction to the “Conservatori Mestre Vert” in the nearby city of Carcaixent to begin intermediate studies, at the same time becoming a pupil of the Spanish Brass Academy with professors Indalecio Bonet and Carlos Gil. In 2007 he began advanced study at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco (Basque Superior Music Center) “Musikene” with professors Juan Manuel Real, Daniel Perpiñán and Alberto Urretxo. During this period he became a student at the Academia Baremboim-Said of Seville where he received instruction from Prof. Martin Reinhald (bass trombonist in the Berlín Staatskapelle.). In the final year of his estudios superiores he was awarded the Erasmus Scholarship to study at the Amsterdam Conservatory with professor Raymond Munnecom (bass trombonist of the Amsterdam Concergebouw Orchestra).

In 2012, he moved to Berlin to study for his Master’s degree at the “Universität der Kunste” with Prof. Stefan Schulz (bass trombonist of the Berlin Philharmonic.)

He has been involved in numerous courses and Masterclasses with esteemed professors such as Charles Vernon, Denson Paul Pollard, Christian Lindberg, Gilles Milliere, Jorgen van Rijen, etc.

He was a participant in the Bamberg Summer Opera Festival (2009) and in the Moritzburg Orchestra Festival in Dresden, Germany, in 2013.

In 2013, he also went on tour with the World Brass Ensemble.

As an instructor, he participated in one of the youth orchestra projects of the SINEM (National System of Music Education) of Costa Rica and, in April of 2014, in the IV Semana Nacional del Trombón (Fourth National Trombone Week) of the UNAM, celebrated in Mexico City.

He has been a member of the Joven Orquesta de Euskal Herria (EGO), Joven Orquesta Internacional Ciudad de Oviedo (JOICO), Banda Federal de la Comunidad Valenciana, NJO Dutch Orchestra, The Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra (JMWO), Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE) and European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) and has collaborated with profesional orchestras such as the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, Radio Kammer Filharmonie of the Netherlands and Neuer Kammer Postdam (Germany).



As of May 2014 he is bass trombonist for the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco.
