First Season 2017, Teatro Degollado

On Thursday the 16th and Sunday, the 19th, of March, the OFJ presents an interesting program whose theme is the music, past and present, that has been “made in the U.S.A.”.  We are treated to one of the most interesting clarinet concertos of the latter half of the twentieth century.  Its author is John Corigiliano, and on this occasion, the soloist will be young Venezuelan clarinetist Jeslán Fernández.  The program concludes with one of Czech composer Antonín Dvořak´s most representative symphonic works, conceived during the summer of 1893 while the composer was Director of the National Conservatory of Music of America in New York:  his Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, best known as the New World SymphonyIts lilting melodies include quotes from music which was popular in the United States during the time Dvořak spent there, in particular, African-American spirituals.
