PROGRAM 2:   GALA • SPLENDOURS OF THE OPERA

In this VoiceFest 2017 program, to be presented on the 23rd and 26th of November, the OFJ welcomes two stupendous voices:  California soprano Lauren Michelle, crowned in the BBC singing competition “Cardiff Singer of the World” in 2015, and Italian tenor Lorenzo Decaro, a constant presence onstage in triumph after triumph at the Arena di Verona.  This gala provides an opportunity to hear arias and duos from such celebrated operas as  Carmen, by Georges Bizet, La Bohéme, de Giacomo Puccini (the Act 1 finale), featured arias for soprano from the opera Thaïs, de Jules Massenet, the letter aria from Eugene Onegin,  by Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky, and such well-known tenor arias as those from  I Pagliacci  (Ruggero Leoncavallo), Cavalleria rusticana  (Pietro Mascagni), and the sublime Nessun dorma, from the opera Turandot, by Puccini.

This gala also features some noteworthy orchestral moments such as the overture of Il vespri SICILIANI, by Verdi, the Overture Donna Diana, by Von Reznicek, and the Intermezzo from Manon Lescaut, by Puccini.
