Gustav MAHLER, Symphony No. 6 in A minor, “Tragic”

Thursday, June 14th, 8:30 PM
Sunday, June 17th, 12:30 PM
Second Orchestra Season 2018, Teatro Degollado

During this Orchestra Season, the OFJ continues its exploration of the Symphonies of Gustav Mahler, which, to date, has elicited stupendous commentaries on the part of the press as well as connoisseurs among the Jalisco public.  This Symphonic Cycle continues with the Symphony No. 6 in a minor, referred to as the Tragic. One curious fact about the piece is that Mahler was able to write this music, filled with drama and intensity especially in the final movement, during a time of happiness and abundance in his own life, together with his wife, Alma María, and their two little daughters. In some of the most emotive moments of the work, it is certain that Mahler is tracing sonic portraits of his wife.  However, the overwhelming contrast in the final movement, with its three devastating hammer strokes, prophesies devastating moments to come for the Mahler family. Beyond any doubt, this is the most personal of all of the Symphonies that this composer would ever write.

Maestro Marco Parisotto will wield the batón on this occasion, regaling us with an imposing version of the Sixth Symphony of Gustav Mahler, on the 14th and 17th of June.
