Five years after Gustav Mahler had completed his Sixth Symphony (Tragic), he embarked on the adventure of composing his last complete symphony, one that he was never to hear during his lifetime: his Ninth Symphony ín D Major. The period of Mahler´s life between his Symphoníes 6 and 9 was fraught with sadness and difficulty, including the death of his eldest daughter, his wife´s evident infidelity, and the diagnosis he received of the incurable heart disease that would take him to his grave in July of 1911. The first movement of the Ninth masterfully recreates the cardiac arrhythmias he suffered; at the same time, the work achieves sublime introspective moments, particularly in the final movement. This monumental Symphony may well be Mahler´s most perfect work.
Marco Parisotto will direct the Mahler Symphony No. 9 for one concert only, on Friday, June 29th at the Sala Plácido Domingo of the Conjunto de Artes Escénicas (Universidad de Guadalajara) at 8:30 PM.
