Third Orchestra Season 2018, Teatro Degollado

Following what has become an established tradition in the artistic life of Guadalajara, the OFJ will once again accompany the outstanding Ballet de Jalisco and its director Dariusz Blajer, in a series of presentations evoking the legendary choreographies of the twentieth century.  The first item on the program is the renowned Bolero by French composer Maurice Ravel, originally commissioned by ballerina Ida Rubinstein and recreated by such iconic dance companies as the Maurice Bejart Ballet of the 20th Century.  On this occasion, the sublime and relentless Ravel Bolero will be presented with choreography by our own Dariusz Blajer.

Likewise, flaunting the Spanish influence of the original work, the Russian composer Rodión Shchedrín wrote a Suite for ballet, on themes from the George Bizet opera Carmen, for string orchestra and percussion.  In 1967, Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso dedicated his choreography of this work to the composer Shchedrín s wife, ballerina Maya Plisétskaya.  This time, Ballet de Jalisco will offer a recreation of the Carmen Suite choreographed by Mark Godden.

These functions will be directed from the orchestra pit by the exceptional American conductor Dorian Wilson, a frequent guest of the OFJ thanks to his resounding successes in front of tapatio audiences.  They take place on Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st of October at 8:30 PM, Saturday the 22nd at 7:30 PM, and the Sunday matinee at 12:30 PM in the Teatro Degollado.
