Opera returns to the Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara, with one of the most preeminent titles in the repertoire:  Turandot, by Giacomo Puccini, based on the 1762 commedia dell’arte play by Carlo Gozzi.  The opera was left unfinished at the time of the composer´s death and was completed by his disciple Franco Alfano.  The plot presents the cruel “ice princess” Turandot, who offers a challenge to her prospective suitors:  Resolve the enigmas she proposes--under penalty of death for incorrect answers; only Prince Calaf is willing to take up the challenge.

The staging of our version of Turandot will be directed by Ragnar Conde, with musical direction by Marco Parisotto, Music Director of the OFJ.  Soprano Oksana Kramareva participates in the role of Turandot, tenor Riccardo Massi as Calaf, soprano Nicole Heaston brings the slave Liu to life, bass Grigory Soloviov appears as Timur, with Mexican artists Carlos López (baritone), César Delgado and Ángel Macías (tenors) in the roles of Ping, Pang and Pong –respectively, and the participation of tenor Rafael Alejandro del Ángel as Altoum, baritone Enrique Ángeles as The Mandarín and Alonso Pérez in the role of The Prince of Persia.  The production includes the participation of the Coro Municipal de Zapopan under the direction of Timothy G. Ruff Welch.  Presentation dates are Saturday, November 24th, Tuesday the 27th, and Thursday the 29th, as well as Saturday, December 1stAll functions take place at the Teatro Degollado, and begin at 8:00 PM.
