Third Orchestra Season 2018, Teatro Degollado

To conclude our Third Orchestra Season of 2018, the OFJ brings us the perfect December program:  Under the baton of Guadalajara native Guest Conductor Enrique Radillo, we will partake in the delights of an authentic Baroque Festival, with the Toccata from the first opera in history, Orfeo, a “musical fable” by Claudio Monteverdi, as the main protagonist, along with the Canzone Primi Toni and Duodecimi Toni by the great Venetian maestro Giovanni Gabrieli.   These Canzone pieces were written by Gabrieli to be performed at the Saint Mark Basilica in Venice by the brass instruments of the composer s time.  Also included will be the Concerto grosso, op. 5, No. 12 by Francesco Geminiani, based on a Violin Sonata by Arcangelo Corelli which uses a pop tune from the Renaissance, La follia, as its theme.

A Baroque Festival without the stupendous music of Antonio Vivaldi?  Of course not!  We feature two Concertos originally written for the lute, in D Major, RV 93, op. 59 and in C major, RV 425, in versions for guitar to be interpreted by Mexican classical guitarist Mauricio Díaz Álvarez, who at present is classical guitar professor at the Beaux Arts Conservatory “Choisy-le-Roi", in Paris, France.  Also by Vivaldi, our own OFJ trumpet virtuosos João Vilão and Gustavo Merlo will perform the Concerto for two trumpets in C Major, RV 537.  The work of these fine soloists will be complemented by the Symphony in C Major, Wq 182/3 by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, and selections from the Moliere comedy-ballet Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme with music by Jean-Baptiste Lully.  We invite our beloved Tapatio public to celebrate with us as we close our 2018 season, on the 6th and 9th of December, at the OFJ Baroque Festival.
