For our sixth program, the welcome inclusion of Šárka, a symphonic poem by Bedrich Smetana, evocatively immerses us in the ancient Czech legend of the War of the Maidens. It is followed by the also-welcome Rachmaninoff Third Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, made particularly famous by the movie Shine.  We conclude with more Russian music; this time, Prokofiev`s best-known symphony, the solid, energetic Fifth, which was premiered under its composer`s baton.
