First Orchestra Season 2019, Teatro Degollado
For our grand finale this Orchestra Season, Week Seven, we present an unusual (and hence, attractive) combination: We juxtapose two different types of operatic expression: The French Romantic style, in works by Delibes, Massenet and Thomas, and the virtuoso Bel Canto style as it occurs in the music of Rossini. Then, in a notable contrast to this concert´s first part, we present the gorgeous Third Symphony of Jean Sibelius, halfway between the romanticism of his first two symphonies and the more advanced language of the last four.
