PROGRAM 1: MAHLER´S RESURRECTION
The VoiceFest opens with one of the most highly acclaimed symphonic/vocal works of the universal repertoire: the Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection” by Gustav Mahler. The work was completed in 1894 and found its initial inspiration in the texts of Des Knaben Wunderhorn (The Boy’s Magic Horn, a collection of German folk poems and songs edited by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano) and, later, moved by the loss of his friend Hans von Bülow, he incorporated an Ode by Klopstock, which was used at the latter´s funeral, in the finale of the work.
