Opera 2018, Teatro Degollado
The OFJ presents: One of the most important works in operatic history, Pagliacci, with both libretto and music written by Ruggero Leoncavallo.
Premiered in May of 1892, Pagliacci (Clowns) was inspired by an incident witnessed by the composer during his youth in Calabria, when a jealous actor murdered his wife onstage during a theatrical performance, right in front of the audience.
The OFJ will be joined by young Armenian tenor Arsen Soghomonyan as Canio; soprano Irasema Terrazas performs as Nedda (his wife); her lover, the source of the discord, will be interpreted by Jalisco-born baritone Carlos López. Our own state´s talent comes to the fore in the voices of tenor César Delgado (as Beppe) and baritone Enrique Ángeles as Silvio, as well. The Zapopan City Chorus, directed by Timothy Ruff Welch (Coro Municipal de Zapopan) will also participate.
Musical direction for the opera will be provided by Dorian Wilson, and scenic direction by Ragnar Conde.
There will only be three performances of Pagliacci, Leoncavallo´s masterpiece, at the Teatro Degollado: Tuesday, April 24th, Thursday, the 26th, and Saturday, the 28th of April, all beginning at 8:30 PM.
