Music to Bring Forth the Christmas Spirit
A light and speedy trip. This is how Allen Vladimir Gómez, Guest Director of the OFJ, describes the upcoming Christmas concert, for which he and the orchestra are preparing an eclectic and promising program... a night filled with emotion, surprises and fun. More than 120 artists will be on hand, including the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco and the Chorus of the Fundación Cuervo, captains of our ship in this sonic voyage which begins with selections from Haendel's Messiah, followed by Mozart's “Exultate jubilate” interpreted by soprano Claudia Rodríguez. . Tchaikovsky nearly always figures in the Christmas plans, and he appears here in three fragments from the traditional "Nutcracker Suite”.
The second part of the concert will be dedicated to the most universally representative Christmas carols. These traditional jewels find new settings, though, in Christmas suites from the movies "Home Alone", "The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “The Grinch”. Near the end of the program we come home for Christmas, symbolically, with Mexican music from our own traditional Posadas. We will then enjoy a rousing finale, the "Hallelujah Chorus" of Haendel.
Vladimir Gómez assures us that it will be “A different sort of concert, interactive and attractive. Everyone will go home singing.” Dates and times for this traditional favorite are Friday, December 13th at 8:30 PM and Sunday, December 15th at 12:30 PM, in our beloved TEATRO DEGOLLADO on Calle Belén, between Hidalgo and Morelos, downtown. Tickets, from $150 to $300, may be purchased through Ticketmaster (Phone: 3818-3800 or online: http://www.ticketmaster.com.mx/Concierto-Navideno-2013-OrqFilarmonica-de-Jalisco-boletos/artist/1939013?brand=tm&tm_link=tm_home_rv_viewed1_name ) and at the theater box office (M-F, 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
