The Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco (Jalisco Philharmonic) announces that its  concerts on Sunday, October 1^stand Sunday, October 15^th,  “Kids Concert with the OFJ”, will be benefit events for those persons affected by the recent earthquakes on September 7^th and 19^th.

The OFJ INVITES ALL CHILDREN to donate playthings (drawing and coloring books and colored pencils) inscribed with a message of hope for the children who have been hurt or lost their homes in these natural disasters, and we know that these messages will be very helpful in the present moment.

Donated material will be received prior to each concert in the “Kids Concert with the OFJ” series, on Sunday the first and Sunday the 15^th of October, beginning at 12:00 noon, in the Teatro Degollado.

In an appeal to all boys and girls, their families, and the general public, the Orchestra asks for solidarity in action, reminding us that even a small contribution, among many, makes a big difference.  In addition to giving us an opportunity to put our values into action, it reminds us that one is never too “little” to generate a great effect, that intentions can be converted into action, and an act of love “here” becomes hope “there”. 

Those children and families who attend these two concerts in the “Kids Concert with the OFJ” series, in addition to contributing to this noble cause, will have the opportunity to see their favorite characters from Star Wars and The Nutcracker.

Quite possibly the first altruistic act on the part of our youngsters, these concerts may also be the first close contact with one of the most sublime manifestations of art:  music. This program was created to serve as an introduction to the world of academic, “classical” music, so we will accompany our young guests with a presentation of the orchestra, its sections, instruments, and the works to be interpreted.

 This is doubtless a magnificent opportunity to build memories of support, solidarity, generosity, love, music, arte, values, unity, compassion, altruism…words which, as adults know, when truly experienced, come to life and permeate our entire being.
