The OFJ will present its first function of the year at the Teatro Degollado in which the public will enjoy a content of selected works, around performances full of the talent of several national and international soloists and directors
The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) returned, and its first season of the year will begin next Thursday, February 9, with a concert at the Teatro Degollado at 8:30 p.m., where the group will perform Brahms and Schumann, and will be accompanied on piano by the talented soloist Daniela Liebman.
There are eight programs that make up this first season of 2023, in which the public will enjoy a content of select works, around performances full of the talent of various national and international soloists and directors, from February 9 to April 2, announced the Ministry of Culture in a statement.
“In its starting season, the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra has established itself as a space for the visibility of women's talent as interpreters, directors and composers. As proof, the names of Liebman, Catherine Larsen-Maguire and Marcela Rodríguez are enough, ”she explained.
The group also establishes itself as a growth showcase for musicians, such as Iván Pérez on violin and concertmaster, scheduled for two of his performances. Likewise, the OFJ continues to be an obligatory visit in Mexico, for directors and directors of intentional stature, added the Secretariat.
In the opening concert, the OFJ will be led by maestro José Luis Castillo, the group's main baton for just over a year. José Luis was born in Spain, but has lived in Mexico for some years and is currently in charge of both this orchestra and the ensemble of the Center for Experimentation and Production of Contemporary Music (Cepromusic) of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL).
In this program that will repeat the function in the traditional Sunday presentations of the OFJ on February 12 at 12:30 p.m., the audience will listen to the Tragic Overture (1880), written by a Johannes Brahms in his maturity, years after having lived in home of Robert and Clara Schumann, thus forming part of the platonic, they say, the most famous love triangle in classical music.
Later, the soloist Daniela Liebman will bring even more life to the stage with her intervention on the piano. This young woman made her debut at the age of nine with the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and on this occasion, she will give us the Concerto for piano and orchestra, which Clara Schumann began writing when she was barely 13 years old. It is the first time that the OFJ carries out this work.
The programmatic content closes with Robert Schumann and his Symphony no. 4, a work inspired by the symphonic production of him by Clara Schummann, who wrote this work in 1841.
The OFJ Season 2023 will take place from Thursday, February 9 to Sunday, April 2. The appointment is every Thursday at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m., at the Teatro Degollado. There will also be a special function in the second program at the Palace of Culture and Congresses (PALCCO), for February 16.
