Alondra de la Parra, Artistic Director of th OFJ
On the 29th of March, 2012, a consensus was reached among all the members of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco, Patronato and the Technical Committee, to name Alondra de la Parra as Artistic Director of the organization.
Alondra de la Parra had her debut with the OFJ as Guest Conductor in 2005. In 2010 she returned to the Teatro Degollado to present her disc, “Mi Alma Mexicana” with the Orquesta Filarmónica de las Américas, the orchestra she herself founded in New York City in 2003, as a part of a tour celebrating the Mexican bicentennial.
Her frequent invitations as Guest conductor have led her to conduct some of the most important orchestras in the U.S.A, Europe. The Mideast, Asi, Latin America, and, of course, Mexico. Her superb orchestral directing talent has permitted concert presentations in tandem with some of the most influential figures on the international concert stage: Joshua Bell, James Galway, Sarah Chang, Nils Mönkemeyer, Jean-Yves Thibaudet o Marrie-Pièrre Langlamet and Plácido Domingo who referred at her as “an extraordinary director”. She has also collaborated with so world-renowned figures as Oscar winners Robert Redford and Geoffrey rush, actor Chris Noth(Mr. Big from Sex and the City) film producer Michel Gondry and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, to mention a few.
Because of her exceptional career and international presence, she has been named Cultural Ambassador by the Bureau of Tourism in Mexico.
Alondra de la Parra began to learn piano at the age of seven and cello at 13. She studied composition at the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales (CIEM) of Mexico City. Her hard work and dedication earned her a scholarship to attend the Manhattan School of Music in New York, first obtaining a Bachelor Degree in piano Performance under the tutelage of Jerry Cohen and later, a Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting under Kenneth Kiesler, both degrees cum laude. She is currently serving as Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco.
