Orchestras Visit El Sauz
With various buildings as a backdrop and the tren ligero as accompaniment, musicians of the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Zapopan and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco offered a free concert to the Colonia El Sauz, in celebration of the 471st anniversary of the founding of Guadalajara.
At 8:00 p.m. sharp, the neighborhood playground transformed itself into play between musical motifs, beginning with the participation of the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Zapopan, to the delight of the citizenry.
As the musicians of the Orquesta Filarmónica came to their places onstage, the Master of Ceremonies regaled the audience with bits of trivia regarding the initial establishment of the city of Guadalajara. Then he presented the special someone who would be at the front of the orchestra, guiding this evening's tour of “castillos y palacios”, director Oriol Sans from Barcelona, Spain. Maestro Sans revealed his mastery of and passion for the repertoire he conducted as the musicians' interpretations brought soft smiles to his lips.
The audience showed its enthusiasm for the unusual event, which brought to the fore a grand repertory of different instruments, Some members of the public enjoyed the concert from the lawn; others were seated on swings and sliding boards. Families and friends gathered to listen to the overture “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” by Wagner, “Music For the Royal Fireworks” by Handel, “The Consecration of the House” by Beethoven, “Janitzio”?by Revueltas and then “Divertimento For Orchestra” by Bernstein.
At the end of the concert, a grateful public demonstrated its appreciation with applause and repeated ovations, with smiles and congratulations for this short but excellent orchestral visit to the El Sauz neighborhood, this past Friday the eighth of February.
