Opera 2016, Teatro Degollado
In 2016, the OFJ plans to present a truly exceptional opera: Otello, by Giuseppe Verdi. Adapted from the well-known William Shakespeare tragedy Othello, the Moor of Venice, this opera boasts an excellent libretto by Arrigo Boito. First performed in February, 1887, this riveting tale of love, jealousy and death, featuring the Moor Othello and his lovely young wife, Desdemona, will be brought to life on the Degollado stage by a stellar cast: Tenor Issachah Savage as Othello, soprano Maija Kovalevska as Desdemona, Michael Chioldi, baritone, as the evil Iago, in addition to the participation of mezzo-soprano Cassandra Zoe as Emilia, el tenor Harold Meers in the role of Cassio, tenor Daniel Montenegro as Roderigo and Grigory Soloviov, bass, as Lodovico.
Marco Parisotto will take the helm as musical director and Ragnar Conde will preside over the onstage and backstage action.
